The Minnesota Noices

Halloween & Father’s Day

Erin’s theme for this year’s party was “Icons” with iconic finger foods such as pigs in a blanket to enjoy, delish! There were many creative costumes and a wide range of interpretations of the theme, from the Word icon, to religious icons, to iconic characters and personas. Bryant wanted an easy option so he went with Orson Welles’ iconic advertisement for Paul Masson wines (a clever way to incorporate Ramesh’s iconic wine selection into his costume!) The elder Noiceling went as 1970’s Dolly, Ebba as Ellen Ripley- iconic female action hero, and I did my best Julia Child impersonation, Bon appetit! Ebba and her bf went by bus to the pumpkin patch, fetched home the gourds and carved their own jack-o-lanterns!

Swedish Father’s Day always sneaks up on us but luckily Bryant’s favorite way to celebrate is with a hike or day camping. The weather cooperated quite nicely so we headed to the Fulltofta Nature Area where we claimed one of the wind shelters with a fireplace. Bry and Ebba cooked up a batch of Sami-style reindeer wraps with in-season mushrooms, yum! Then we hiked a short distance to the Nature Center cafe to pick up some dessert.

The eldest and I recently started studying Swedish again with SFI-svenska för invandrare (Swedish for immigrants) a mix of independent study and formal classes that we sign up for each week, choosing what suits our schedules and skills that we want to practice. So far it’s working well for both of us and we occasionally have classes together! I’m lucky to have her help me with the technology and managing various digital tools. Last week she completed the first 6 week theme, Art and Society, which concluded with a student art show at Lund City hall, where we all read what students wrote about their art work, and then had discussions about it and gave a little presentation to one of the instructors. H submitted a cross-stitch design which she enjoyed so much that she’s already working on another project.

Christmas decorations are going up but the fountains are still on- a bit unusual as we move into late Fall.
